2009 Iowa Regional Soaring Seminar and Banquet

The Silent Knights Gliding Club invites you, your family, and friends to the 2009 Iowa Sailplane Pilots Banquet, Saturday, February 28, 5pm to 8pm (or beyond) at the Quality Inn and Suites, 13th Street and I-35, in Ames. Directions are below.

We'll have an extended social hour starting at 5. It's a great time to catch up with old friends, and meet new ones.

Then at 6:30, we'll convene the banquet. Darrell Mullins from Silent Knights will host. We're fortunate to have FAA Aviation Safety Inspector Rick Giarusso join us to discuss some of the safety issues that the FAA wants us to know as glider pilots, and what glider pilots want the FAA to know about us. Rick Giarusso is a CFI, MEL, ATP in fixed wing, is also rated in helicopters, and works out of the Des Moines area FSDO, with his expertise area being pilot operations. Rick is currently working on his glider rating, with a goal of earning a CFIG. He's planning a spring trip to Marfa, too.

Following Rick's talk, Darrell Mullins will host the traditional round of true/not true/almost true/too good to be true stories. The best story of the night will be chosen by public acclaim.

In keeping with the times, there is no registration fee. We'll be ordering dinner from the menu, and entrees run $10-20. The hotel's restaurant is called Buford's Barbecue and Steakhouse, and it has a good selection of family friendly food.
