2008 Iowa Region Soaring Seminar and Banquet

Please make plans to attend the annual Iowa Region Soaring Seminar and Banquet.  It will take place March 1, 2008 at the Clarion Hotel in Cedar Rapids, IA starting at 11:30 AM.  We are looking at an exciting lineup of speakers for the afternoon seminar to include:

 

Don Ingraham – Don returns this year to tell us the story of his Hilton Cup win.  Previously Don has spoken about his incredible experiences soaring in New Zealand.  Don is an active CFIG who owns and operates Cross Country Soaring in Fairbault, MN.

 

Don Gurnett – University of Iowa Physics Professor Don Gurnett will talk about his long career of cross country soaring in Iowa.  He started out in a Cherokee II flying from the Cedar Rapids airport in the mid 60’s and has gone on to his high performance Ventus sailplane, soaring in national championship contests along the way. 

 

Terry Edmonds – Terry is a highly accomplished pilot in both the full size and scale worlds of soaring.  He has 10 first place wins to his credit in National RC competitions, 9 of them in sailplanes.  However, his presentation to us will be a discussion of the soaring software Strepla, and of his adventures flying out west in Parowan, Utah.

 

More presentations are in the works, and we look forward to having a full bill of exciting and interesting soaring topics for the afternoon.  If you have any ideas for exciting and fun presentations please contact us.

 

Cold Sandwiches, Snacks, Coffee, and Water will be served at noon for the seminar.  At the conclusion of the seminar, we will begin the banquet, conveniently served at the hotel and ordered off the menu.  Stories will be told, awards will be given, and we look forward to activity reports from pilots around the region.

 

Be sure to contact the Clarion Hotel and reserve your room today.  Mention that you are part of the Glider Pilot Convention for a discounted room.  Rates are $82 a night.  Reservations must be made before February 16 to get the discount. 

 

Cost for the seminar is set at $25 a person. Advance payment to hold your place is required. Please send your checks as soon as possible, made out to Tom Burns.  We look forward to seeing everyone from around the area in March!
