Glider Rides The Silent Knights Glider Club offers two levels of guest flights. No pilot's license is required for either level. All guest flights are conducted from our homebase at Ames Municipal Airport. We typically fly guest flights on weekends, May through October. We participate with the Soaring Society of America's "FAST" program. The FAST program provides a mini-lesson on the basics of glider flying, and then a 30 minute flight. A logbook is included, along with a trial membership in the Soaring Society of America. All training is conducted by a FAA certified flight instructor (glider) in one of the club's 2 seat training sailplanes. The flight is a wonderful way to see if you, or someone you know, would like to get more involved in soaring. The cost for the FAST flight is $99. We also offer a sight-seeing flight that is a good way to experience glider flight. The flight takes 20-30 minutes, and is conducted by a FAA certified flight instructor (glider) or a commercial glider pilot. The cost of the sight-seeing flight is $75.
