Father's Day Glider Ride Special Offer

This Father's Day, get Dad the gift that he's always wanted: a glider flight with the Silent Knights. On Sunday, June 20, we'll be flying Dads on sightseeing flights from Ames Municipal Airport from 10am to 6pm.  Each flight will include a briefing from a certified flight instructor or commercial pilot, a 20 to 30 minute flight, and debriefing.  

No pilot's license is needed.  Can't make it to the airport on Father's Day?  We can email you or your Dad a certificate that's good for a flight anytime within the next 12 months.

Spaces are limited and available on a first-reserved, first-flown basis.  If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll fly at a mutually agreeable day and time within the coming year.

For flights booked in advance of Father's Day, the cost is $75, a discount from our usual sightseeing flight charge of $85.  Gift certificates purchased prior to Father's Day are also $75.

My First Flight

Soaring is quite an experience! I had the pleasure of soaring over the heart land with my  Father-in-Law, Paul. I was really nervous at first. In fact, I was so nervous that I wouldn't fly with him for six years. But, I finally got some courage and up we went up. I couldn't believe how easily it all happened. I got strapped in, Paul calmly talked me through what was going to happen and before I knew it, we were being towed by another plane up into the air. When we finally reached the magical altitude, we were released from the tow plane and we glided to the right and the other plane went off to the left. That moment was such a rush! Then, just like a quiet, gentle bird, we flew over Ames. It is an experience not to be forgotten.

We do have a few limitations that you should be aware of. The maximum passenger weight is 242 pounds, and the maximum height is 6'5". Passengers need to be at least 18 years old. If you wish to purchase a gift certifcate for someone under 18, a parent or legal guardian will need to be present to sign a release form.
